This database includes 35,000 oaths filed since 3/25/1924 . Additional oath information will be added and this database will be updated on a regular basis.

Oath and bond filings for certain state officials may be submitted to the Government Records Division of the Office of the Secretary of State under section 19.01(4)(a) of the Wisconsin Statutes. That statute does not necessarily require that a particular state officer make an oath or bond filing with the Secretary of State, however, unless the requirement to file appears in another statute or legal authority. See s. 19.01, Stats., for clarification.

The Secretary of State does not maintain a list of officials who are required by statute to file oaths or bonds, and cannot provide you with any information about the filing requirements imposed upon particular officials.

Copies of records reported to be on file in the Government Records Division may be ordered from that division, at the address below. The cost is $2 for a plain, uncertified copy (without the Secretary of State’s seal), and $5.00 plus $.50 per page for a sealed, certified copy. Most oath filings consist of one two-sided page; a certified copy costs $6.00. A request for copies must include the fee and should specify the date (or time period in years) of the filings you seek. Make checks payable to Secretary of State.

The fees stated above are imposed under 14.38(9) of the Wisconsin Statutes, which establishes costs for certificates or copies of filings issued by this office. These fees are not waived for indigency unless specifically required by a written court order or by law clearly applicable to these specific statutory payment requirements.

Note that these requests are processed in combination with other requests, in the order they are received. Walk-in service is not available. Turn-around time is generally 6 to 10 working days, once the request is received. This time can vary based on staffing levels and quantity of requests received.
